BORN HULL 01/12/1872. FATHER OF MRS ANNIE ELIZABETH MALYON AT THIS CWGC ADDRESS. MARRIED AT HULL IN 1895. HUSBAND TO EMILY ANN MAUD WILKINSON. THEY HAD FOUR DAUGHTERS. EMPLOYED AS A COAL TRIMMER. SERVED IN THE ON ARMY TRANSPORT SHIPS. HE WAS LOST AT SEA IN THE MEDITERRANEAN, ON 12/09/1918, AGED 46.

The S/S Sarnia was a passenger ferry used in the Channel, when she was requisitioned by the Admiralty in WWI. She was used as an armed boarding ship and in 1915 she was sent to the Dardanelles. On October 29th 1915, Sarnia collided with the auxiliary minesweeper Hythe off Cape Helles. The Hythe, being used as a troop trasnport sank and was lost with 155 officers and troops.
On September 12th, 1918, Sarnia was sunk by the German submarine U-65 (Gustav Sieß), off Alexandria. 53 persons were lost.
