BORN HULL 1897. SON OF ELIZA AGNES MELLORS (1872-1940) & THOMAS WILLIAM BUCKNALL (1867-1932), OF 3 HOPE TERRACE, WALKER STREET, HULL. ONE OF 10 CHILDREN. THIS WAS HIS ARMY ADDRESS. A COAL HEAVER AND LABOURER BEFORE THE WAR.

HE ENLISTED BEVERLEY ON 29/08/1914, AGED 19 YEARS .DESCRIBED AS JUST OVER 5 FOOT 6 INCHES TALL, 133 LBS, BROWN HAIR, GREY EYES, FRESH COMPLEXION. SERVED WITH THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS, IN THE DARDENELLES, FROM 25/08/1915. RETURNED HOME ON 27/10/1915. DISCHARGED WITH HEART DISEASE, ON 08/12/1915. DIED AT HOME ON 01/12/1918 AND BURIED IN HULL.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED IN THE HOLY TRINITY CHURCH BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE. ALSO LISTED ON THE HULL BOYS CLUB MEMORIAL, ROPER STREET.
