BORN HULL 1880. PREVIOUS TO ENLISTING HE WORKED FOR MESSR WRIGHT & CO, TIMBER MERCHANTS, VICTORIA DOCK. HE ENLISTED WITH HIS TWO BROTHERS, ONE WHO SERVED IN EGYPT, THE OTHER, IN FRANCE. WALTER SERVED AS PRIVATE, 48519, 4TH STAFFORDSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS WOUNDED IN ACTION AT POPERINGHE, AND DIED OF WOUNDS ON 17TH DECEMBER 1917, AGED 37. HE LEFT HIS WIDOW ADA, SON & DAUGHTER AT THIS CWGC ADDRESS, TO MOURN HIS LOSS. (HDM 18/01/1918 & 17/12/1918.) HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 31ST DECEMBER 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS BURIED AT MENDINGHEM MILITARY CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “TO MEMORY EVER DEAR, FROM ALL AT HOME”
