HE LIVED WITH UNCLE WILLIAM & ELIZABETH BLEWETT, AT 74 , WEST DOCK AVENUE, HULL  (1901 CENSUS) AND 12 ESSEX STREET, HULL 91911 CENSUS). A BOAT BUILDER AND SHIP CARPENTER. LOST BY ENEMY ACTION. HULL MERCHANT NAVY RECORDS. HIS BROTHER ALBERT, DIED IN CANADA ON 13/12/1918, AGED 36.

SS Ferndene, built by Northumberland SB. Co. Ltd., Newcastle in 1899 and owned at the time of her loss by Dene Steam Shipping Co. Ltd. (J. T. Lunn & Co.), Newcastle, was a British steamer of 3770 tons. On April 24th, 1917, Ferndene, on a voyage from Table Bay to London with a cargo of graphite & meal, was sunk by the German submarine U-53 (Hans Rose), 150 miles west of Bishop Rock. 9 persons were lost.
