Burt, James Marshall

Corporal, James Marshall Burt, Northumberland Fusiliers

Born Reighton, Yorkshire, 1880. Son of John Burt (1837-1917) and Jane Marshall (1844-1907). He had four sisters and two brothers.

Former NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY Joiner living at 50 Haddon Street, Hull (1911 Census) and 178 Hawthorne Avenue, Hull (War Pension Address). He was also the Athletics Secretary for Hull’s, Health and Strength Harriers. Enlisted at York, when war began. Served as Corporal, 17th Northumberland Fusiliers. Killed in action, on 29/06/1916, aged 36. He left a widow and two sons.

he married Eva Marshall (1887-1972) at St Johns Church, Newington, Hull, on 09/07/1903. Reported by his wife, Mrs Eva Burt, of 178 Hawthorne Avenue, Hull, as missing on 28/06/1916 and officially confirmed killed. (HDM 12/12/1916). He is listed on the Hawthorne Avenue, Street Memorial. He left a widow and four children.
