BORN 03/10/1879 AT BRENTFORD, MIDDLESEX. SON OF JAMES CAIN (1849-1922) AND SARAH ANN HARRIERT PORTER (1852-1932). ONE OF TEN CHILDREN.

IN 1901 HE WAS WORKING AS A MARKET GARDNER IN JERSEY, CHANNEL ISLANDS AND ALSO LIVING NEXT DOOR TO HIS FUTURE WIFE, AMY LYDIA GALLIENNE (1881-1962). HE MARRIED IN GUERNSEY IN 1905. THEY HAD SEVEN CHILDREN, FOUR OF WHICH DIED IN INFANCY. BEFORE ENLISTING, HE RAN A GREEN GROCERS BUSINESS, IN HARDY STREET & WAS PREVIOUSLY EMPLOYED AS A GARDENER AT MESSRS SMIDDY’S NURSERY, NEWLAND.

HE SERVED IN THE 1/4TH EYR. DIED OF ACUTE MENINGHITIS ON 11/03/1917, AGED 38. HE LEFT WIDOW, AMY, & 6 CHILDREN TO MOURN HIS LOSS.

HE IS FEATURED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 07/04/1917 & 11/03/1918. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 20TH MARCH 1917 WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
