Born Hull, 1879. Son of George Calver (1852-1900) and Eliza Church (1856-1920), of 89 Havelock Street, Hull & Ipswich. He moved to Suffolk and worked as a General labourer. described as 5 foot, 10 inches tall, 144 lbs weight, 38-40 inch chest, brown eyes, dark brown hair, Church of England religion.
He married at Ipswich, on 16/10/1900, aged 21. His wife Ellen Gull (1877-1959), lived at 57 Cavendish Street, Ipswich, Suffolk (1911 Census) and 20 Ernest street, Ipswich (War Pension address). They had six children.
He enlisted at Ipswich, 29/09/1914. Went to France, on 08/11/1914. Served with the 4th Suffolk Battalion. Wounded in left arm and left heel, on 11/03/1915. Returned to England on 14/03/1915. Discharged with heart failure, on 10/04/1916, aggravated by active service. Died on 16/09/1916, aged 37. Buried at Ipswich Old Cemetery, Suffolk. His CWGC grave inscriptions, reads, “HE WHO SUFFERED IS AT REST”.
