BORN ST JOHNS, DURHAM,  16/07/1878.  SON OF JOHN AND BARBARA CARR, OF DURHAM.

HE ENLISTED IN THE YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND SERVED IN SOUTH AFRICA DURING THE BOER WAR. HE MARRIED ELIZABETH WHITAKER, FROM HULL, AT SCARBOROUGH, ON 15/10/1898.

HIS WIFE ELIZABETH AND DAUGHTER, CHRISTINA, LIVED AT SARAH ANN TERRACE, WATERLOO STREET, HULL AND 1 ELIZA PLACE, CANNING STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL ON 14/08/1914. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 07/03/1915. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 4/8463, 2ND & 4TH WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE DIED OF WOUNDS AFTER THREE WEEKS IN HOSPITAL, ON 26/04/1915., AGED 37. BURIED IN FRANCE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE ELEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ELIZABETH, WHO REMARRIED AND BECAME MRS TAYLOR. HIS DETAILS ARE RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNEY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 1.

HIS DEATH & PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 3RD AND 8TH MAY 1915.*

HIS NAME IS LISTED AS DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY, ON THE WATERLOO STREET MEMORIAL. 35 PEOPLE SERVED FROM THIS TERRACE. (HDM 09/09/1916).
