Born Hull, 1893. Son of William and Annie Cartledge, of 75, Edgecumbe Street Hull (1911 Census). Eldest Son of a Gas Works labourer, He had three brothers and two step brothers. He worked as Clerk in the Police Courts. Over 6 foot tall and of very good character.
Married at St Pauls, Hull, on 24/12/1917. Husband of Dorothy, at 56, Ella Street, Newland Avenue, Hull (War Pension address).
He enlisted on 14/1/1916. Served in the 13th & 8th East Yorkshire Regiment. Discharged in October 1919. Died on 08/03/1924, aged 31.
