Cawthorne, Alfred Ernest

Born Poplar, East London, 1892. Son of George William Cawthorne (1861-1939) and Charlotte Senescal (1869-1942), of 26, Caughey Street, Hull (War Pension address). Son of a Cooper. He had four brothers and one sister.

He was an Assistant Postman, living at 143 Abbott Rd, Bromley, Poplar, East London (1911 Census).

He enlisted in the London Regiment (Post Office Rifles), 8th Bn. Killed in action at Festubert, on 17/05/1915, aged 22. His army effects were left to his mother, Charlotte.

Buried at Festubert. His CWGC grave inscription, reads, “HONOUR WILL BE SERVED”.
