BORN SCARBOROUGH 04/10/1880. SON OF WILLIAM ALBERT CHAMPLIN AND MARY ANN CHAMPLIN. EDUCATED AT FOUNTAIN STREET, NATIONAL SCHOOL, HULL. HE WORKED AS A BRICKLAYER AND FOR THE BRITISH GASLIGHT COMPANY, AT SCULCOATES, HULL. HE MARRIED, ELIZA STURDY, AT SCULCOATES, ON 12/06/1903. WIFE ELIZA CHAMPLIN & THEIR TWO DAUGHTERS, MURIEL & FLORENCE, LIVED AT 10 OCEAN PLACE, WATERLOO STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HIS SISTER, MRS DAVEY, LIVED AT 9 CLAREMOUNT AVENUE, HOLMES STREET, HULL. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 26/10/1914. SERVED AS A GUNNER IN THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. SERVED IN FRANCE AND FLANDERS, FROM 20/04/1915, WITH THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 25/03/1918, AGED 38. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR THREE YEARS.

HE IS BURIED ON THE SOMME, AT BEAUVAL COMMUNAL CEMETERY. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 16/04/1918, AND 19/09/1918.HE IS ALSO RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME, 4.
