BORN HULL 1889. SON OF THOMAS CHANT (1855-1936) AND ELIZABETH ADA BRIGGS (1870-1936), OF KINGS COURT, HIGH STREET, HULL. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER. EMPLOYED AS A BUTCHER. HE BOARDED AT 17 ROSAMUND STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS).

HE ENLISTED AT HULL. SERVED WITH THE ROYAL ENGINEERS, RAILWAY SECTION. HE DIED OF INFLUENZA AND SHELL SHOCK, AT 28TH GENERAL HOSPITAL, MIKRA, GREECE, ON 01/01/1919 AGED 29. HIS PARENTS LATER MOVED TO 6 BRADFORD ROW, SOUTH HALL GATE, DONCASTER.

HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, PRIVATE, JOSEPH ROBERT CHANT, 46TH CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE, DIED AT VIMY RIDGE, ON 11//11/1916, AGED 23.
