Chapman, George Kennington

Born 14 Jul 1877 • Hull, Yorkshire, England. Son of Samuel Chapman (1848-1902) and Emma Kennington (1851-1910). He had five brothers and six sisters. Arrived at Canada in 1886. Resident at Kings, New Brunswick, Canada, where he worked as a Harness Maker. Served in the South African War, as George Chapman, (Regimental Number: 7913) Royal Canadian Regiment of Infantry

Resident at Kootenay, British Columbia, Canada, where he worked as a cook (1911 Census). Enlisted 1914. Service Number: 709010 Force: Army Unit: Canadian Infantry (New Brunswick Regiment) Division: 26th Bn. Lance Sgt. 26th Battalion Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action, on 09/11/1917, aged 40.

His brother Guy Francis Chapman, also served with the Canadians -43rd Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment). He was injured and gassed a number of times, sent back to England, then to France again. Killed in action on 08 Aug 1918, aged 27 • Hourges, Marne, Champagne-Ardenne, France. His body was never recovered and is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial
