BORN HULL 08/08/1896. SON OF SAM & LATE LILY ALICE CHRISTTMASS, OF 220 HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN AND SEVEN SONS. A FORMER CRANE WORKER, FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS. ORLANDO ENLISTED INTO THE 5TH EAST YORKSHIRE CYCLISTS ON 4TH MAY 1914. TRANSFERRED TO THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT ON THE OUTBREAK OF WAR. SERVED IN FRANCE. TRANSFERRED AS ABLE SEAMAN, IN THE ROYAL NAVAL DIVISION, ON 15TH JUNE 1917. THESE WERE SURPLUS SAILORS, FORMED INTO ARMY BATTALIONS, NAMED AFTER ADMIRALS. HE SERVED WITH THE ‘DRAKE’ BATTALION. AND WAS KILLED AT PASSCHENDAELE, ON 31/10/1917, AGED 21.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 21/11/1917. BURIED IN BELGIUM. HIS NAME WAS LISTED ON THE HALTEMPRICE STREET MEMORIAL.
HIS BROTHER, CHARLES CHRISTTMASS, WAS LOST AT JUTLAND, ON HMS ‘INVINCIBLE, 31ST MAY 1916.
