Claridge, Albert

Born Hedon, 1887. Son of John and Marian Claridge, of 29, Grafton Street, Hull (CWGC address). he had one married brother Cecil, who lived at 118, Lambert street, Hull and three married sisters, Elsie, Dora and Marion.

He married Lilian Buckle, at Preston Parish Church, on 09/08/1915. They had one daughter, Rita, born 16/07/1916. Resided at “West View”, and 20, George Street, Hedon, Hull (War Pension address). He worked as a Warehouse Clerk. Described as 5 foot, 9 inches tall, 116 lbs weight, 34-36 inch chest.

He enlisted on 06/12/1915. Called up on 01/06/1917. Posted to France, on 22/10/1917. Served in the Royal Garrison Artillery, 249th Siege Battery. He died of Pneumonia, at the Burdon Military Hospital, Weymouth Hospital, on 09/02/1919, aged 32. He had served in the army for 3 years, and 66 days.

Buried at MELCOMBE REGIS CEMETERY. His grave inscription reads, “Thy Will be Done”.

His widow received a weekly war pension, of 20 shillings and fivepence, on 11/08/1919. His army effects included 2 books, 2 belts, a framed photo and foot powder. He also left her £233 in his will. he also cared for his widowed mother and received an extra pension allowance. His widow re-married and became Mrs Lilian Pearson
