BORN HULL 09/04/1889. SON OF ALFRED & MARIA BERTHALINA CLARK OF 3 FANNY’S TERRACE, CLARENDON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). BROTHER OF HARRIET, BERTHA AND ALICE. A DOCK LABOURER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. EX PRIVATE, 4470, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED, AS PRIVATE, 43252, “D” COMPANY, 10TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. DIED OF WOUNDS, AT THE 20TH CASUALTY CLEARING STATION, ON 17/10/1917, AGED 30.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 17/10/1919. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFTTO HIS FATHER ALFRED.
HE IS BURIED AT TYNE COT CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE SLEEPS WITH ENGLAND’S HEROES IN THE WATCHFUL CARE OF GOD”.
