EX RAILWAY CLERK FOR THE GREAT WESTERN RAILWAYS AND HULL AND BARNSLEY LINE. ONE OF FOUR BROTHERS SERVING. ENLISTED HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 11018, 9TH WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WOUNDED AT GALLIPOLI ON 06/05/1915. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, AT ALEXANDRIA HOSPITAL, ON 26/11/1915, AGED 22. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, CHARLES.
HIS PHOTOGRAPH AND DEATH WERE REPORTED IN THE HDM ON 06/12/1915, 24/11/1917 & 26/11/1919. ALSO IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 11/12/1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS BURIED AT ALEXANDRIA (CHATBY) MILITARY AND WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE DIED LIKE HIS COMRADES HEROES ALL”.
