BORN HULL 13/09/1885. SON OF JAMES CLATER (1855-1931) & MARY ANN KYNMAN (1860-1947). ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. HE MARRIED HANNAH (ANNIE) WALMSLEY, AT HULL, ON 14/10/1905. HIS WIFE, ANNIE CLATER & SEVEN CHILDREN LIVED AT 11 HERBERTS TERRACE, BARNSLEY STREET, HULL  (1911 CENSUS) AND 6, CROSSLAND AVENUE, HOLLAND STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). AN IRON FOUNDRY WORKER FOR MESSRS, AMOS & SMITH, ENGINEERS.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION, IN EGYPT, FRANCE AND BELGIUM. HE HAD SURVIVED THE BATTLES OF THE SOMME AND OPPY WOOD. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 27/01/1918, AGED 32. HE IS BURIED AT ROCLINCOURT MILITARY CEMETERY. HE LEFT A WIDOW AND SEVEN CHILDREN. AWARDED A WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 43 SHILLINGS, ON 12/08/1918.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 27/02/1918. *
