Claxton, Alfred Thurlow

Born Hull, 1885. Son of Hartwell Donald James Claxton (1857-1937) and Jane Harker (1856-1906), of Hull and Manchester. Son of an accountant. The family left Hull for Moss Side when he was a child. He had one brother and three sisters.

He married Alice Fairclough (1858-), on 02/01/1909, at Greenheys, St Clement, Lancashire. They lived at, 29, Carver Street Chorlton On Medlock Manchester (1911 Census) and 22, Ainside St., Rusholme, Manchester (CWGC address) He worked as a Salesman and book keeper in a warehouse. They had three children.

Served in the 1st/8th Manchester Battalion. he died of wounds on 16/11/1918, aged 36.

His Brother in law Arthur Fairclough, 1/8th Manchesters, was killed at Gallipoli on 31/05/1915.
