BORN HULL 1878. SON OF JOHN CLAXTON (1843-1891) & MARY (SHIELDS), OF 17, CLARENDON STREET, HULL. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN. HIS BROTHERS GEORGE & WILLIAM ALSO SERVED. THEY ALL LIVED WITH THEIR SISTER, SARAH ANN CLAXTON, AT 4, ROSEDALE AVENUE, UPTON STREET, DANSOM LANE, HULL. HE JOINED THE RECKITTS FACTORY, ON 20/10/1891. WORKED AS A STOREMAN, AT THE FACTORY FOR 25 YEARS.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, AGED 36 AND 11 MONTHS. SERVED AS DRIVER, 011894, ARMY ORDANANCE CORPS. POSTED TO FRANCE ON 09/11/1915. TRANSFERRED AS RIFLEMAN, 76368, 1/6TH SHERWOOD FORESTER. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 15/11/1917, AGED 39.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 26/11/1917. *
HE IS BURIED AT LIJSSENTHOEK MILITARY CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “TOO DEARLY LOVED TO BE FORGOTTEN”.
