Cokell, John

Born Settle, North Yorkshire, 1894. Son of Sam and Sarah Cokell, of Castle Street, Settle, Yorkshire. Son of a railway plater. He had an elder sister, Agnes and three brothers, Lawrence, Thomas and Frank, who all served in the war. He worked as a Railway Porter. He joined as Private, 1354, the Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding) Regiment, on 12 April 1910.

Married at Settle, 21 Oct 1915. Husband of Emma Julia Myatt, of 4, Amy’s Terrace Terrace, Ferries Street, Hedon Road, Hull (War Pension address).

Enlisted at Keighley. Served as a Gunner in the 33rd Bde R. F. A. Killed in action, on 13 Aug 1917, aged 23. Buried at Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, Belgium.
