Cook, Alfred Ernest

Born Hull 1867. Son of James Cook (1843-1905) and Maria Isabella Atkinson (1848-1934), of 36, Day Street Hull War Pension address).

He married Ann Harvey, in Hull, on 02/03/1890.

A dock labourer, living with his wife and five sons, at 84, Clifton Terrace Adelaide St Hull (1911 Census) and 17, St Lukes Avenue, Pease Street, Hull (Pension Ledger Address).

He enlisted in Hull. Served as private, 11/796, 11th East Yorkshire Regiment. Died of chronic  bronchitis aggravated by war service, on 18/12/1919, aged 52.

His son Private, Thomas Arthur Cook, 2nd Lincolnshire Regiment, was awarded the Military Medal & Bar and also died on 18/12/1919, aged 20.

His younger brother, Chief Engineer, Christian Day Cook, died in 1920, aged 42, when the S/T “Amber” struck a mine and all hands were lost
