BORN THORNGUMBALD, HULL 1890. SON OF WILLIAM GEORGE CRACKNELL & EMILY ANN PECK (1865-1908). ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. A BRICK YARD LABOURER (1911 CENSUS). HE WORKED FOR THE BRITISH GAS LIGHT COMPANY, BANKSIDE, HULL.

HE MARRIED MATHILDA HEPWORTH, AT SCULCOATES, HULL, IN 1909. THEY HAD FOUR CHILDREN AND LIVED AT 17 CLAREMONT VENUE, COURTNEY STREET, HULL AND 169 DANSOM LANE, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, IN OCTOBER 1914. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 200801, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 27/06/1917, AGED 27. COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL, FRANCE. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 24/07/1917. *

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW MATILDA.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING. ALSO LISTED ON THE DANSOM LANE MEMORIAL, IN HULL.

HIS BROTHE SAM CRACKNELL SERVED IN THE ROYAL NAVY AND REGINALD CRACKNELL WITHTHE NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. A BROTHER IN LAW WAS ALSO IN THE NAVY.
