BORN WHITBY, 1894. SON OF LATE WILLIAM CROSBY & MRS ELIZA ANN EGTON, AT 42 , BRAZIL STREET, HULL, (CWGC ADDRESS). HIS FATHER DIED IN 1905. A FORMER RAILWAY WORKER. HE ENLISTED AT YORK. JOINED THE 17TH NFUS, NER ‘RAILWAY PALS’ BATTALION. SERVED AS A LANCE CORPORAL. WOUNDED AT THE SOMME, HE DIED ON 06/07/1916, AGED 22, AT THE 38TH CASUALTY CLEARING STATION. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WENT TO HIS MOTHER WHO REMARRIED – ELIZA ANN MARTIN. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 28/07/1916.
BURIED AT HEILLY STATION CEMETERY, MERICOURT-L’ABBE, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “CHRIST WILL LINK THE BROKEN CHAIN CLOSER WHEN WE MEET AGAIN”
