Crosby, William Thurlow

BORN HULL 1892. SON OF WILLIAM & CATHERINE ABOVE (1911 CENSUS). HUSBAND OF MARY LIZZIE CROSBY (NEE CULLEN), OF 110 KENSINGTON, LIVERPOOL. BROTHERS FREDERICK & CHARLES CROSBY. SERVED AS FIREMAN ON THE LONDON CARGO SHIP “SEA GULL’, SUNK ON 16TH MARCH 1918. DROWNED AGED 25.

SS Sea Gull, built by Mackie & Thomson, Glasgow in 1899 and owned at the time of her loss by Leach & Co. Ltd., London, was a British steamer of 976 tons.
On March 17th, 1918, Sea Gull, on a voyage from Le Havre to Liverpool with general cargo, was sunk by the German submarine U-103 (Claus Rücker), 7 miles northeast of Lynas Point. 20 persons were lost.
