BORN BEVERLEY 1893. SON OF GEORGE CROSS (1849-1920) AND MARY ANN CROSS (1856-1900), OF 125 KELD GATE, BEVERLEY AND TRINITY LANE (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

A LABOURER. HE ENLISTED AT BEVERLEY. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 3630, 5TH YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 27/10/1916. COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, SOMME, FRANCE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS SISTER, EMILY PUTTMAN. HE ALSO LEFT BROTHERS, GEORGE AND JOHN CROSS. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE BEVERLEY’S WW1 MEMORIAL, MEMORIAL GARDENS.

HIS ELDEST BROTHER PRIVATE, GEORGE CROSS ALSO ENLISTED AT BEVERLEY. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 3596, ‘C’ COMPANY, 1/4TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, 15/09/1916, AGED 31. TWO SONS LOST IN 6 WEEKS.
