BORN GOOLE 1894. SON OF GEORGE WHITFIELD CROSS & MARY ELLEN WRAY, AT 105, DE LA POLE AVENUE, HULL, (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A BAKER. ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. HE WORKED AS A PRINTER IN HULL.(1911 CENSUS). HE THEN MOVED TO CHARD, SOMERSET, AND ENLISTED THERE, WHEN WAR BEGAN.

ORMERLY, PRIVATE, 5483, OF THE YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 41038, TO ‘C’ COMPANY, THE 2ND WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 16/08/1917, AGED 23. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL, TO THE MISSING IN BELGIUM. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, GEORGE.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 19/03/1919.
