Crossman, Samuel Carter

BORN NEWFIELD, GOOLE, 1882. SON OF SAMUEL CARTER CROSSMAN (1851-1917) AND LOUISA SANDERSON (1858-1890), OF GOOLE. HIS WIFE ELIZABETH FOSTER CROSSMAN (1885-1949), AND THEIR DAUGHTER MARY LOUISA, LIVED AT 13 EBENEEZER TERRACE, WEST DOCK AVENUE, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 78 , CHILTERN STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 2ND KINGS OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 28/10/1914, AGED 32. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON LE TOURET MEMORIAL, FRANCE.
HIS NAME WAS LISTED THE ON HULL’S CHILTERN STREET MEMORIAL AND ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, WW1 MEMORIAL, NEWINGTON, HULL.

HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH IS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 12TH DECEMBER 1914, THE HULL TIMES, ON 12TH DECEMBER 1914, AND THE HULL DAILY MAIL AGAIN ON 29TH JUNE 1916. *
HIS FATHER, SECOND ENGINEER, SAMUEL CARTER CROSSMAN, WAS LOST ON THE GRIMSBY TRAWLER, “QUEENSBOROUGH”, ON 21/03/1917, AGED 58. AND IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HILL NAVAL MEMORIAL.
HIS BROTHER, GUNNER, JAMES WILLIAM CROSSMAN, 133434, SERVED WITH THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. HE HAD SEPARATED FROM HIS WIFE ALSO LIVED AT 78 CHILTERN STREET, HULL.
