BORN HULL 1898. SON OF THE LATE GEORGE WILLIAM CROWE (1861-1909) AND ANNIE CROWE, AT THIS ADDRESS (1911 CENSUS) AND 67 DERRINGHAM STREET, HULL. HE EMIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA ON 04/03/1914. WORKED AS A LABOURER. HE ENLISTED IN MELBOURNE, VICTORIA, ON 18/08/1915, AGED 17, CLAIMING TO BE AGED 19. HE WAS DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 3 INCHES TALL, 9 STONE IN WEIGHT, 32 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, LIGHT BROWN HAIR, SCARS ON RIGHT KNEE CAP AND APPENDIX. HE PROCEEDED TO ALEXANDRIA AND ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 31/03/1916. HE SERVED IN THE 13TH REINFORCEMENTS, 8TH BATTALION, AUSTRALIAN IMPERIAL FORCE, 1ST AUSTRALIAN DIVISION. WAS ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL SEVERAL TIMES, WITH SCABIES, IMPETIGO, EYE TREATMENTS. HE REJOINED THE 8TH AUSTRALIAN IMPERIAL FORCE, ON 18/08/1917. EMPLOYED AS A RUNNER BETWEEN THE COMPANY AND BATTALION HEADQUARTERS. HIS BODY WAS FOUND ON A TRACK ON THE FRONT LINE. KILLED IN ACTION AT PASSCHENDAELE, ON 04/10/1917, AGED 19. HIS BODY WAS NOT RECOVERED AND HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE MENIN GATE MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING AT YPRES. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER, ANNIE.
