BORN HULL 1894. ONLY SON OF ELIZA ANN CLIFTON (ANNIE) & THE LATE ARTHUR EDWARD DALES. HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND THREE SISTERS ETHEL, ROSE & DORIS LIVING AT 28 ELLIS STREET, HULL ( 1911 CENSUS) AND 15 COLERIDGE STREET, WESCOTT STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS). EMPLOYED AS AN APPRENTICE TROUSER CUTTER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 11/12/1915, AGED 22 YEARS AND 5 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 10.5 INCHES TALL, 33 INCH CHEST, 128 LBS WEIGHT. EX 22412, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT PROMOTED ACTING CORPORAL, ON 07/05/1916. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 18/12/1916. TRANSFERRED AS LANCE CORPORAL, 53287, 15TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. WOUNDED BY GUNSHOT TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER AT ARRAS ON 03/05/1917. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION AT PASSCHENDAELE. HE DIED OF WOUNDS ON 04/10/1917, AGED 24. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 298 DAYS. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
