Born Prince Edward Island, Canada, 1874. He was a sea Mariner. He had previously served in the Natal Mounted Rifles (Time Expired).
Described as 5 foot, 7 inches tal, 120 lbs weight, 36 inch chest, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, Roman Catholic religion.
Enlisted at York, on 18 Sept 1914. Served with the 17th, Northumberland Fusiliers (Hull Railway Pals) & 32nd NFUS Reserves. Discharged with Tuberculois (both lungs), on 18 July 1916. He had served in the army for 1 year and 305 days. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: 63251). Died of TB & acute heart disease, which was contributed by war service, on 21 Jan 1917, aged 43.
He married Lily Atkinson Marshall, at Hull, on 7 Apr 1914. His wife, Lily Atkinson Daly (born 20 April 1870), lived at 3, Kingston Terrace, St Stephens Square, Hull and 8, Albert Terrace, Spring Street, Hull (War Pension address). They had an adopted child, Florence Marshall Cross, born on 21 Aug 1904 and step child, Harry Dewhurst Marshall, born on 9 Feb 1909. Lily was awarded a weekly war pension, of 28/6 shillings, the day after he died, but not before.
