BORN HULL 1897. SON OF WILLIAM SAMUEL DAY & ANNIE ELIZA DAY, OF 77 MANCHESTER STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 128 TUNNARD STREET GRIMSBY (CWGC ADDRESS). ELDEST OF FIVE CHILDREN. HE SERVED AS A DECKHAND, ON THE GRIMSBY TRAWLER, “EQUINOX”. LOST AT SEA, ON 25/08/1916, AGED 19. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HILL NAVAL MEMORIAL, LONDON. HIS NAME IS ALSO RECORDED ON THE HESSLE ROAD NAVAL MEMORIAL BOARDS.
The Grimsby trawler Equinox of 198 tons was (probably) sunk by a mine on 25th August 1916, 39 miles SE by E from the Humber Lightvessel. Eleven lives were lost, including the Skipper.
