BORN HULL 1894. SON OF GEORGE DEAKIN (1861-1923) AND MARY JANE DEAKIN OF 156 , SOMERSET STREET, HULL, (1901 CENSUS) AND 5, WORSHIP STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). A CORN MERCHANT’S CLERK. THIS WAS HIS ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS.

HE ENLISTED IN CENTRAL HULL, ON 28/08/1915. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 11 INCHES TALL, 126 LBS WEIGHT, 35 INCH CHEST, AND “GOOD” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. FORMER, PRIVATE, 2224, 1ST EAST RIDING YEOMANRY. LEFT SOUTHAMPTON, ON 19/10/1916. ARRIVED IN ALEXANDRIA, ON 01/11/1916. TRANSFERRED ON 27/02/1917, AS PRIVATE, 95918, 18TH MACHINE GUN SQUADRON (CAVALRY). SHOT IN THE CHEST. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, IN EGYPT, ON 20/11/1917, AGED 23. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY, FOR TWO YEARS AND 85 DAYS.
