BORN HULL 1894. SON OF CHARLES DEAKIN (1869-1952) & ALICE EMILY DEAKIN (1873-1946), OF 3 CHURCH TERRACE, ST PAUL STREET, HULL. SON OF AN ENGINEER MACHINIST. ONE OF TEN CHILDREN. HE MARRIED GLADYS MATILDA WHELDRAKE, ON 16/03/1915. HIS WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN LIVED AT THIS CWGC ADDRESS. EMPLOYED AS A TINNER’S LABOURER. DESCRIBED IN HIS ARMY RECORDS AS 5 FOOT, 5 INCHES TALL, 138 LB WEIGHT 36-38 INCH CHEST, GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 11/12/1915 AS A SIGNALLER, FOR THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. HE DIED ON 05/11/1918, OF INFLUENZA, AGED 24, AT HAZELEY DOWN MILITARY HOSPITAL, WINCHESTER. HE IS BURIED AT HULL WESTERN CEMETERY.
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, CHARLES DEAKIN, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED IN BELGIUM, ON 29/06/1915, AGED 26.
