Born Hull 1886. Son of Joseph Dean (1847-1914) and Hannah Marie Harwood (1847-1911), of 43 Tadman Street Hessle Road (1911 Census). When Herbert Dean was born in December 1886 in Hull, Yorkshire, his father, Joseph, was 39 and his mother, Hannah, was 39. He had five brothers and five sisters. Employed as Checker.
Enlisted at Hull in 1914. Formerly 20200, 13th Hussars. Posted to France, on 27/07/1915. Transferred as Corporal, Queen’s (Royal West Surrey) Regiment: 7th Battalion. Died of wounds, on 14/07/1916, aged 29. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France
His army effects were left to Miss Annie Turner, of 5 St Andrew Street, Hessle Road, Hull.
