Tickton Memorial Plinth, St Pauls Church.

Born Weel, Yorkshire, 1896. Only son of George Davison Dean (1862-1938) and Martha Frances Tennison (1864-1923), of Ferry Boat Inn, Weel, Beverley (war pension address). He had two younger sisters, Fanny & Mary. His grandmother, Elizabeth Frances Tennison ran the Ferry Boat Inn, at Weel, York. His father was a drainage labourer that lived in the pub. James Dean worked as a Farm Waggoner.

He enlisted at Beverley. Served with the Prince of Wales’s Own (West Yorkshire) Regiment, 1st/8th Battalion.

Died of scarlet fever and heart failure, at Home, on 04/02/1918, aged 22. His army effects were left to his father, George.

He is buried in Tickton St Pauls Churchyard and commemorated on the Tickton WW1 Memorial. His grave inscription, reads, “LOVED, HONOURED AND REMEMBERED”.
