Densley, John Patrick

BORN DUBLIN 5/10/1864. SON OF GEORGE DENSLEY AND MARY ANN MORGAN. ONE OF TEN CHILDREN. THE FAMILY MOVED TO ENGLAND AND TRAVELED WIDELY. HIS FATHER DIED ON 12/02/1902, AT GILLINGHAM, KENT. HIS MOTHER DIED IN MANCHESTER, ON 31/10/1918. JOHN PATRICK DENSLEY WAS MARRIED THREE TIMES. FIRST TIME AT THE ISLE OF WIGHT, ON 29/01/1889, TO CATHERINE CARROL (1868-1898). SECOND WIFE, ISABEL LAVINA McGAIN (1874–1909), MARRIED APRIL 1891 AT BARROW ON FURNESS. HIS LAST WIFE, JANE ANN (CLAXTON) DENSLEY, MARRIED IN HULL, ON 24/08/1916, AND LIVED AT THIS CWGC ADDRESS. HE WAS A TIME SERVED PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER WHO SERVED WITH THE 1ST AND 2ND BATTALIONS OF THE WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, REACHING THE RESPECTED RANK OF QUARTER MASTER SERGEANT. HE WORKED AS A CLERK IN HULL LIVING WITH HIS ELDEST DAUGHTER, AT 10 JOSEPHINE TERRACE, BEAN STREET. HE RE-ENLISTED AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR, AS A PRIVATE, IN HULL, ON 14/10/1914. AT 50 YEARS OF AGE HE WAS EMPLOYED AS AN INSTRUCTOR. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 7 INCHES TALL, 170 LBS, 43 INCH CHEST, GREY HAIR, BROWN EYES, IN ‘GOOD’ PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. HE IS BURIED IN A CWGC GRAVE AT HULL WESTERN CEMETERY, AGED 54. JOHN HAD SOME TEN CHILDREN FROM HIS THREE MARRIAGES. ONE OF HIS SON’S – JOHN HAROLD DENSLEY WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 22/12/1915.
