BORN HULL 1893. SON OF JOHN WILLIAM DENT (1860-1940), AND ELIZABETH ANN (ANNIE) OWENS (1862-1924), OF 2 ELM TREE HOUSE, SUTTON BANK AND 2 ELM TREE HOUSE, CHAPMAN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A COAL MERCHANT. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER. WORKED AS A CAULKER APPRENTICE.

HE ENLISTED IN 1914. JOINED THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (4TH HULL PALS BATTALION). SERVED IN EGYPT & IN FRANCE FROM MARCH 1916. AN ACTING CORPORAL. HE WAS A POPULAR AND CHEERFUL NC0. KILLED BY SHELL FIRE, ON 21/08/1916, AGED 22. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ANNIE.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 9TH SEPTEMBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS BURIED AT ST. VAAST POST MILITARY CEMETERY, RICHEBOURG-L’AVOUE, FRANCE. COMMEMORATED ON THE DANSOM LANE MEMORIAL, HULL.
