BORN HULL 1893. SON OF JAMES FREDERICK DIBB (1850-1898) & SARAH ANN BENN (1850-1924), OF EAST THURSTOLL, SUTTON, INGS, HULL. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND FIVE SISTERS. HIS SISTER, MRS ADA MAY BLANCHARD, LIVED AT 71, NEWCOMEN STREET, HULL (HDM 13/06/1918).
HE ENLISTED IN DARLINGTON, ON 08/09/1915, AGED 24. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6.5 INCHES TALL, 35.5 INCH CHEST, “GOOD” VISION AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 11/02/1917. HE WAS POSTED TO THE 19TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. HE MARRIED ANNIE STOBBART, AT DARLINGTON, IN MARCH 1917. SHE LIVED AT 15 KENSINGTON TERRACE AND 7 BURLEIGH PLACE, DARLINGTON. PROMATED TO SERGEANT, ON 01/04/1917. WOUNDED IN THE BACK, ON 06/05/1917. RETURNED TO HIS UNIT. SHOT IN THE HEAD. HE DIED OF WOUNDS AT THE 56TH CASUALTY CLEARING STATION, ON 07/06/1918, AGED 26. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY, FOR 2 YEARS AND 273 DAYS. HE LEFT £79 IN HIS WILL, TO HIS WIFE ANNIE, AT ACACIA HOUSE, GRANGE ROAD, DARLINGTON (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
HE IS BURIED AT BAGNEUX BRITISH CEMETERY, GEZAINCOURT. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DEAR HUSBAND COME THOU UNTO ME AND REST AWHILE”
