Cpl, Mark Durham, 9th Lancashire Fusiliers

BORN CLIFFE, SELBY, 1887. SON OF WATSON & HANNAH DURHAM. HE WAS A MALTSTER FOR HULL BREWERY. HIS WIFE MRS E M DURHAM LIVED AT 16, PORTLAND STREET, HULL, WITH HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, JOHN DURHAM, 7TH EYR. HE HAD NINE CHILDREN.

HE ENLISTED IN MARCH 1915 IN THE KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY AND TRANSFERRED TO THE LANCASHIRE FUSILIERS IN 1916. HE HAD SEEN SERVICE IN EGYPT, DARDENELLES AND FRANCE. KILLED ON 09/02/1918, AGED 42.

HE LEFT A WIDOW AND NINE CHILDREN. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 15TH FEBRUARY 1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *.

HE IS BURIED AT MONT HUON MILITARY CEMETERY, LE TREPORT, SEINE-MARITIME, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “IN UNFADING MEMORY FROM HIS SORROWING WIFE AND FAMILY”.
