Durrant, Richard

Born Hull 1885. Married at Hull in 1905. Husband of Mary Marion Bridges (1885-1940). of 7, Eleanor’s Terrace Oxford Street, Hull (1911 Census) and 9, Long Entry, Salthouse Lane, Hull (War Pension address). They had three children. He was a General Labourer. Only 5 foot tall, 134 lbs weight, 35-37 inch chest.

Enlisted at Hull, on 10/3/15 , joining as Private, 1352, 13th EYR (Hull Pals). Discharged on 15/8/16, as mentally deficient – unable to understand orders, perform elementary tasks and didn’t know when he is telling lies. His Commanding Officer described him as “Quite Useless”)

He re-enlisted in the Queen’s (Royal West Surrey) Regiment, and transferred to the Labour Corps. Awarded British War Medal and Victory Medal. Also the Silver War Badge (No:B91624). Died at the Hull City Asylum, Willerby, on 17/01/1919, aged 34.
