Eric Henry Dyson, Royal Navy Air Service.

BORN HULL 1898. SON OF JAMES ARTHUR DYSON (1873-1944) & EDITH MARY FOGGIN (1874-1944), FORMERLY OF 20 RYDE STREET, HULL  & NOW LIVING AT 23 PRETORIA ROAD, STREATHAM, LONDON. GRANDSON, OF THE LATE, CAPTAIN DYSON. SON OF A SHIPPING CLERK, HE HAD A YOUNGER BROTHER, CALLED JOHN.

HE WAS EDUCATED AT HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL. BEFORE THE WAR HE WAS TRAINING AS AN ENGINEER. HIS SISTER LIVED AT 585 HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL. HE ENLISTED IN THE ROYAL NAVY AIR SERVICE, AS A PROBATIONARY FLIGHT OFFICER. HE WAS ACCIDENTALLY KILLED WHILST FLYING, ON 03/12/1917, AGED 19. AWARDED THE BRITISH WAR MEDAL 1914-20.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 20TH DECEMBER 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, ENTITLED “HULL FLIGHT OFFICER KILLED”. *

BOTH HIS PARENTS WERE KILLED IN AN AIR RAID, ON 24/06/1944, AT 13 POLLARDS HILL EAST, NORBURY, CROYDEN, SURREY. (CWGC RECORDS).

IT APPEARS THAT ERIC’S BROTHER, JOHN, LATER MARRIED HIS MOTHER’S SISTER AND THIS MAYBE THE SISTER REFERRED TO IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ARTICLE DATED 20/12/1917.
