Elkin, William

Born Longton, Staffordshire, 1896. Son of Martha Ann Elkin (1864- ) and the late William Elkin (1866-1921), of 4, Egerton St., New Brighton, Cheshire (CWGC address) and 5, Lee Villas, Lee Street, Holderness Road, Hull (War pension address). He had one brother, Harold and two sisters, Elsie and Joyce. He worked as an Errand Boy.

He enlisted at Longton, Staffs. Served in the 1st Grenadier Guards. Transferred to the 5th Bn. He died of wounds, on 25/09/1916, aged 20. Buried at Longton, Stoke. His grave is inscribed “At Rest”.

His brother, Guardsman, Harold Elkin, 35214, Grenadier Guards, died at home, on 18/04/1919, aged 19. He is also buried at Longton, Stoke.
