BORN HULL 1897. SON OF HARRY & JENNIE ELLIS AT 65, DAY STREET HULL, AND 26, PORTLAND PLACE, PROSPECT STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION & CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A CABINET MAKER. ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN.

HE ENLISTED AT HULL. SERVED WITH THE 2ND SHERWOOD FORESTERS. KILLED AT PASCHENDAELE ON 27/09/1917, AGED 20. UNMARRIED HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, HARRY. HE IS BURIED AT NEW IRISH FARM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “GONE BUT ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS”.
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, SOLOMAN ELLIS, 2ND YORKSHIRE REGIMENT WAS KILLED AT POZIERES, ON 23/03/1918. THEY ARE BOTH COMMEMORATED ON THE HULL JEWISH COMMUNITY ROLL OF HONOUR.
