Evans, Thomas Henry

Born Cheetham Hill, Manchester, 1894. Son of Amos and Lavinia Evans, of 153, Cleaveland Road, Crumpsall. He had two brothers, Wilfred and Harold and one sister, Elsie.

A warehouseman. Described as 5 foot 7 inches tall, 36-39 inch chest, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, Church of England religion.

He enlisted at Manchester, on 08/08/1914, aged 19 years and 9 months. He forfeited pay four times for absences during training. Formerly 25932, Hussars. Posted to Sulva Bay, Gallipoli, on 25/08/1915. He contracted dysentery and was invalided to Lambeth Hospital, London, on 16/05/1915. Posted to France, on 10/08/1916. Transferred to the 8th East Yorkshire Regiment. Killed in action on 13/11/1916 aged 22. Buried at Serre Road Cemetery, No:1, France.

Married at Hull registry Office, on 08/02/1916. Husband of Florence Louisa Allanson (1895-1973), at 6, Grimston Terrace, Clifton Street, Hull (Army address) and 78, Brazil Street, Holderness Road, Hull (War Pension address). They had one son, Thomas Henry Evans born on 3rd April 1916. His army effects were also left to his widow, who wrote to the army 12 months after his death requesting them.
