Featherston, Alfred

BORN HULL 1895. SON OF JOSEPH EDWARD FEATHERSTON AND SARAH COLE, AT  43, WELLINGTON LANE, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. ONE OF 15 CHILDREN. HIS MOTHER DIED IN 1914. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AS A FLOUR MILL HAND. LIVED AT 3, FERRIES STREET, HEDON ROAD, (1911 CENSUS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL IN MAY 1915. JOINING THE ERY ‘C’ SQUADRON. HE DIED AT DRIFFIELD, ON 07/12/1915, AGED 20, WHEN HE FELL OFF HIS HORSE. THE INQUEST WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 11/12/1915. HE HAD SERVED FOR  7 MONTHS. BURIED AT HULL WESTERN CEMETERY.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER JOSEPH.

HIS NAME IS SOMETIMES SPELT AS FEATHERSTONE IN THE MILITARY RECORDS BUT FEATHERSTON IN CWGC DETAILS.

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE ST MARKS STREET MEMORIAL WITH C W FEATHERSTONE.
