EMPLOYED AS A DOMESTIC STABLE BOY (1911 CENSUS). HE ENLISTED IN CHESTERFIELD. SERVED AS A GUNNER IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. DIED OF GAS POSIING WOUNDS, AT ETAPLES, ON 04/08/1917, AGED 23. BURIED AT ETAPLES, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “TOO DEARLY LOVED TO BE FORGOTTEN MOTHER & FATHER”
HE IS ALSO COMMEMORATED ON THE SIGGLESTHORNE WW1 MEMORIAL WHICH INCLUDES 75 MEN WHO SERVED AND ELEVEN WHO DIED IN WW1.
