BORN THIRKLEBY, YORKS, 1893. ELDEST SON OF ARTHUR & ELIZA FINCE, OF 100 DURHAM STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). A GROCER’S ASSISTANT. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS.

HE ENLISTED HULL. SERVED WITH THE 4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WENT OUT TO FRANCE WITH COLONEL SHAW, IN APRIL 1915, AND HAD SERVED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CAMPAIGN WITHOUT INJURY. PROMOTED TO SERGEANT. HE WAS MORTALLY WOUNDED AND DIED OF WOUNDS, RECEIVED IN ACTION, ON 23/04/1917. HE WAS 24 YEARS OLD. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO HIS MOTHER, ELIZA.
BURIED AT WARLINCOURT HALTE BRITISH CEMETERY, SAULTY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “WORTHY OF EVERLASTING REMEMBRANCE SADLY MISSED”
