BORN GORLESTON-ON-SEA, SUFFOLK, 13/03/1888. SON OF GEORGE BENJAMIN FLEET (1853-1937) & ANNA MARIA WATSON (1856-1924), OF  ‘BRAM LEA’ THE PADDOCK, HULL. HE ENLISTED IN THE ROYAL NAVY, ON 11/05/1904 AGED 16. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, BLUE EYES, FAIR HAIR, TATTOOS ON BOTH ARMS.  LOST ON THE S/S BENLARIG, 02/04/1917, AGED 29. HIS BROTHER, HERBERT PERCY FLEET, A FISHERMAN, FROM CLEETHORPES, WAS LOST AT SEA, ON 17/12/1917, AGED 32.

On April 2nd, 1917, the British steel cargo ship BENLARIG, left Fremantle for Colombo with a cargo of wheat in bags and went missing. She was not heard of ever since. 37 CREW LOST. Benlarig was a Bine Line cargo requisitioned by the Admiralty as a collier, aka Collier No.617.
