Fletcher, Sebastian Moorcroft

Hull Pals Memorial Post. Private, SEBASTIAN MOORCROFT FLETCHER 52658. Born in April 1899, Sebastian appears to have been an only-child and an orphan. The 1911 Census has him lodging with Fred and Anna Rushton, of 1, Clyde Terrace, Bean Street, Hull. His father, BG Fletcher residing at 134, Chanterlands Avenue, Hull applied for his war pension (War pension address).

He enlisted at Hull City Hall. Served with the East Riding Yeomanry. Transferred to the 11th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, 2nd Hull Pals, in the trenches of the Western Front. Fatally wounded on the Vieux-Berquin sector, Sebastian was withdrawn to the hospital camps at Boulogne/Wimereux where he died, on 24/08/1918. He is buried in Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimelle; he was 19 years old. Sad to think there was no-one to miss him. Until now that is.
